Our Approach To Sports & PE

Instilling a love of sport and the value of keeping fit and healthy

We understand the importance of physical activity and a healthy lifestyle for our students. Research shows that regular exercise not only improves physical health but also boosts cognitive function and mental wellbeing.

We incorporate physical activity into our academic curriculum through our Physical Education (PE) program, which is designed to develop students' gross motor skills, coordination, and teamwork. Our PE classes are inclusive, fun, and engaging, and provide a safe space for students to try new activities and build

The PE Curriculum

Shaping active, confident, and resilient individuals

Our PE curriculum is designed to develop students' resilience and stamina, as well as their fundamental movement skills. We follow the Chris Quigley Curriculum, which aims to develop the fundamental skills of stability, locomotion, and object control. By developing fluency in these skills, children can perform them automatically and focus more on strategy and tactics. Our curriculum includes a variety of activities, such as invasion games, striking and fielding games, gymnastics, swimming, dance, athletics, health and wellbeing, and ball skills. Our aim is to provide a well-rounded education that supports students' holistic development.

Additional Sporting Opportunities

Nurturing ambition and cultivating talented athletes

At RPS, we offer a wide range of additional sporting opportunities outside of the curriculum to allow our students to explore and develop their interests. These opportunities include football, netball, tag rugby, aquathon, cross country, athletics, rounders, cricket and basketball. In addition, we are proud to partner with ENRICH ME, a market-leading enrichment program that provides expert coaching to support the school's curriculum and nurture talent. Our aim is to develop talent through specialist coaching, dedicated squad coaching sessions, and frequent tournaments and competitive matches with other schools.

Our Sports Facilities

Age-appropriate, dedicated facilities - the strength of a standalone primary school

We offer our students state-of-the-art sports facilities. Our fully shaded multi-sport astroturf pitch provides a safe and comfortable environment for a variety of sports, while our large indoor sports hall allows for year-round use. For early years activities, dance, drama, and more, our smaller Battuta Hall is the perfect space.

We also have a shaded roof court for basketball and netball, as well as a temperature-controlled 25m swimming pool, ensuring year-round access to aquatic activities. With our exceptional sports facilities, students can develop their athletic abilities and enjoy a range of physical activities in a safe and supportive environment.

Opportunities to Compete and Recognition of Success

Learning the value of sportsmanship and teamwork through competition

It is important that children have opportunities to compete and that children’s success is recognised. Our sports programme provides frequent age-appropriate competitive house events for children of all ages and abilities to compete as a team. In addition, our squads in sports such as swimming, football, netball, and basketball train together and compete against other schools, both individually and in tournaments.

We are proud to be part of the ENRICH ME programme, which manages competitive squads comprised of the most talented sportspeople from across the Cognita regional schools.
